‘Aim High, Prepare to Achieve’

Year 1 / 2

Welcome to Year 1/2 home page

A warm welcome to all the new Year 1/2 children. This year we will be working closely with the other classes in KS1 to provide a rich and diverse curriculum.

Our team this year in Year 1/2 will be Miss Hudspith and Jan.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please email Year12BTP@welearn365.com or admin2603@welearn365.com.

Until we meet again in September, we hope you have a safe and sunny summer break.

The Year 1/2 Team

Phonics Screening check

After the half-term break children in Year 2 will be taking the phonics screening check. This check has been delayed from the summer of Year 1 due to school closures earlier in the year and is a government set check on children's ability to apply their phonics to read 40 real and nonsense words.

To support your child with this we encourage children to read at home. We can't emphasise enough the difference that you can make at home through regularly reading with your child and listening to them read. Shorts bursts of reading regularly really will help to develop their fluency and ability to decode words which will help them so much with a lot of learning at school.

There are some words to support your child with the screening check too for the holidays under the 'Phonics Screening Check' icon. We encourage children to Fred talk the words (sound out) the alien words before they blend the sounds to help with accurate decoding of these words. Please encourage your child to read these words and any which they are unsure of, come back to another time. Thank you for your support with this.

Reading books and reading records

Please make sure that your child brings their reading book and record into school everyday. This will help us with listening to your child read as frequently as possible in school. Please log onto BugClub so your child can read their online book and answer questions to show their understanding of what they've read. Reading books will be changed by Jan on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

P.E  from half term onwards children will have one PE session per week on Mondays . Please make sure your child comes to school in their kit on these days. Joggers and a warm top are needed please so we have the option of going outside if it's dry.

Forest School

Year 1/2 have the opportunity to do Forest School for the next half term. Forest school will be on a Tuesday, starting on Tuesday 2nd November and excluding Tuesday 30th November. On Forest School days, children will need to come to school in their own clothes. This should be clothing that keeps them warm, protects them from the ‘elements’ and is ‘not precious’ so can get wet and muddy. Ideal clothing would include old trousers, long sleeve top, old trainers/wellies and a warm coat.
