Key Stage 1

Welcome to Key Stage 1

We are delighted to welcome you into Key Stage 1. We have an exciting year planned with lots of engaging topics and texts to explore.

We have 3 classes in Key Stage 1; a year 1 class, mixed year 1/2 class and a year 2 class.

Class 1R is taught by Mrs Reid and supported by Di.

Class 1/2F is taught by Mrs Folkes and supported by Miss Morrison.

Class 2M is taught by Miss Maisey and supported by Jan.

For the Autumn Term our topics will be:

School Days where we will be learning about the Victorian Era with a focus on life in school back then. We will look at the structure and shape of the school building and look to recreate this using a 3D model. When we finish this topic we will be having a Victorian day to deepen our knowledge and understanding. For our Science we will be looking at everyday materials and their uses.

In the second half term we will be studying ‘Our Wonderful World’. We will be learning about the four countries of the UK and their capital cities. We will look at the structure and shape of animal shelters and look to design and make our own for a rabbit.In Science, we will be looking at animals, including humans and identifying what animals need to survive and why exercise is important.  

In Maths this half term we will be looking at number alongside addition and subtraction before moving on to look at 2D and 3D shape. Our English sessions are based on our topic for the half term. For the first part of the term, we will be looking at the story ‘Whiffy Wilson: The wolf who wouldn’t go to school’.  After half term, we will have a poetry week focus and look at rhyming words. After this we will look at the text ‘Here We Are’ before moving onto some traditional tales. 

Our PE focus will be multi skills this half term, looking at agility, balance and co-ordination. After half term, we will be moving onto dance, looking at a variety of animals.

Class 1R will have PE on Wednesday.

Class 1/2F will have PE on Thursday.

Class 2M will have PE on Wednesday.

Alongside PE, we will be doing weekly Forest School sessions throughout the year.

Class 1R will be going to forest school on a Tuesday morning.

Class 1/2F will be going to forest school on a Wednesday morning.

Class 2M will be going to forest school on a Thursday morning.

We ask that you send your children appropriately dressed for the weather these days.

Home Learning will consist of reading at home, spellings and Mathletics. We will be sending home the spellings on look, cover, write, check sheets which need returning to school for a Friday. Weekly spelling checks will take place on a Friday.
