Friends of Bishopton School

F.O.B.S

The ‘Friends of Bishopton School’ organisation is run entirely by a committee of volunteer parents and school staff. We devote our time to raising valuable funds for the school and organising fun events for the pupils and their families.

Each year we have a calendar of events including seasonal fayres, termly discos, an end of year ‘hot dog disco’ as well as cake sales and competitions. We provide ice creams for the children at sports day, refreshments for the open day, sports kits for the school teams and we subsidise a Christmas party/jingle ball disco with a gift for each child who attends. We also provide funding for the school to host various theme days throughout the year and supplement their purchasing for equipment and learning materials.

We are always looking for new members and new ideas! If you would like further information please contact any of the committee members below, Kathy Clee at the school office or email the FOBS committee at BSFOBS@yahoo.com . Alternatively, you are welcome to attend any of our meetings, please see the school newsletters for forthcoming dates.

We look forward to seeing you at our events and thank you for your support as a Friend of Bishopton School.

The School Choir

In February 2016 we also purchased a Keyboard for the School Choir costing £495.00 which he has been able to use at events within the school and for The Choir’s performances at Holy Trinity Church and The Town Hall.

The Queen’s 90 Birthday Tea Party

FOBS helped at The School Council’s Queen’s Birthday Party event by running a Cream Tea Stall. We were able to donate the £25.00 profit to the council for their Charity ‘The Acorns Children’s Hospice’

Due to a major building project taking place at the school we were unable to hold our Spring Fayre or Hot Dog Disco but the new building opened for the new school year and looks amazing so we are looking forward to hosting our planned calendar in events in 2016/17.

2016/2017

We started this school year with a very successful School Disco in September which raised over £200. Thank you to all the children who came to the Disco and made it such an enjoyable evening.

FOBS provided Refreshments and Cakes at the ‘Open Morning’ in October for prospective parents for Reception intake in 2017. We enjoyed being able to support the school and help welcome new parents to our school community.

Car Boot Sale

We held our very first Car Boot sale on 5th November 2016. We had over 20 bookings for indoor tables and Car Boot Spaces and made a profit of £166.00. A huge thank you to everyone who booked a Table and supported us on the day.

Halloween Cake Sale

Christmas Disco “The Jingle Ball”

Friday 2nd December

All the children were invited to the Christmas Disco which FOBS subsidised and bought a gift for each child. This year was another huge success, with the highlight of the Disco being a Karoake Spectacular with year 5 and 6 singing ‘Rocking around the Christmas Tree’ with our Chair Jo Payne! Thank you to Darren Powlett for providing his wonderful DJ services.

Christmas Performances

FOBS provided refreshments and held a Raffle on each of the Christmas Play nights with prizes donated by Beta Fire Protection. Thank you to all the parents who bought tickets at each performance and helped raise £140.00

Christmas ‘Cake and Bake’ Sale

We held our Christmas Bake Sale on the 9th December and made just over £40.00.

Christmas Fayre

This year’s Christmas Fayre was one of our best ever… and we even made it into the Herald Newspaper! The Christmas events raised over £1,200 and we had a huge turnout so a big thank you to all the parents and friends who supported us

We were able to generate over 30 raffle prizes which made this one of our best ever. Thank you to everyone who donated to our Hampers and to everyone who bought tickets.

Father Christmas arrived at 12.30 and we had lots of children visit him in his magical Grotto made by FOBS members.

Spring Cake Sale Friday 3rd March

Another successful Cake sale making nearly £50 for our Funds. We could have sold a lot more but we ran out of supplies so we are hoping we can rally some more budding Mary Berry’s for next time!

Mother’s Day Disco, 31st March

The FOBS Mother’s Day Disco was a huge success with lots of children bringing their mums along and a fantastic time was had by all. It was the first time we had run an event like this and from the positive feedback we received we will definitely be doing this again in the future. The Mums danced the night away and we were lucky enough to have donations to make 7 raffle prizes.

Family Picnic 17th June

We had our first family picnic and fun day on Saturday 17th June which turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year! We had lots of family time with the parents and children playing rounders, football and games on the field, with ice lollies and refreshments provided by FOBS.

Hot Dog Disco

At the end of the summer term we held our annual ‘Hot Dog Disco’ was a great success. We had a Disco, Dancing Competitions (including parents!), BBQ, Face Painting, Hoorays Ice cream as well as a Tombola and Stalls. The children and their families danced the night away thanks to Darren Powlett and lots of fun was had by everyone.

Just before Christmas we were delighted to be presented with a cheque for £1,000 from the Rosebird Community Hall. They are a non-profit organisation and as a result of having a good year they decided to make donations to the PTA's of local schools, recognising the work they do and their fundraising efforts.

We have set aside this money for a special project or purchase in 2017 and will be asking for ideas at our meetings.
